This is a very elegant and classically styled platinum diamond solitaire ring estimated to be from the mid to late 1940's or so....
The entire ring is crafted of solid platinum and features a nice quality brilliant cut diamond. The diamond appears to be an early brilliant cut....it has a tiny clipped culet and nice fire. It's approximately 4 mm in diameter, and so is estimated to be approximately .25 carats, though it appears larger due to it's squared head with decorative prongs.
I would judge the color of the diamond to be in the H-I-J range of near-colorless and the stone is completely eye-clean. Under 14x magnification (10x is the industry standard) I see only a couple of very small clear crystalline inclusions....it's a very nice quality diamond, as one would expect to see set in platinum.
In addition to the stylishness of the setting, the ring has lovely sculpted detailing on each shoulder...still crisp with milgrain work. There is also pretty cut work - sort of a tear drop shape - that leads down the band. The face of the ring is approximately 5 x 10 mm and the rise off the finger is approximately 5 mm. The prongs do show wear and should be retipped soon to protect the diamond.
The band shows only slight thinning...it is still very strong and solid. The inside of the band is marked "Platinum" (though it is slightly worn) and also has a "W" which is likely the maker's mark. The ring has a total weight of 2.80 grams.
Currently the ring is a size 7, though it could be sized by an experienced jeweler comfortable working with both platinum and older jewelry. (** Please read my shop policies page for more information on sizing anor feel free to convo me to discuss it or to obtain a quote from my trusted jeweler!)
A wonderful and stylish ring...perfect for an engagment, wedding or just as a lovely diamond ring to add to your collection....
