It was published as one of a series of ten in the 1930s. Much of the artist's work explores the people, traditions and landscapes of Brittany, where he made his home.
"Femme de Pontivy" is one of a series of Breton country folk in traditional costume, portrayed in Fourrier's typically strong graphic style.
His work is highly collectible and whilst contemporary reprints are available this is an early image.
The print measures 6.5" x 9.5" and is in an attractive wooden frame (no glass). The paper is slightly foxed but this does not detract from its striking charm.
The frame is missing its back paper. It has the gallery label from where it was purchased - L'atelier Alleaume Caen and a pencil signature M. Julienne on the rear -possibly the framer or the original purchaser?
