Fired in an anagama kiln (stoked with wood every few minutes non-stop for 5 days) to over 2400 degrees F. for strength and durability, the outside is naturally glazed by the wood ash and colored by the flames. The ash glaze inside the cup is a beautiful mottled yellow-green. It is especially nice where the glaze overlaps the lip and begins to run just a little, creating a nice contrast between the yellow-green glaze and the syrupy gold-tan glaze from the fire. The slightly flared foot keeps it steady on the table or in the truck console.
The clay is vitrified so the cup would not leak even if it were not glazed. The ash glaze inside and overlapping the lip is food-safe (and, of course, the natural ash glaze on the outside is food-safe, too). Okay in the microwave and dishwasher.
