The painting is PRAIRIE GARDEN by Janet Kuemmerlein. The plants depicted in it are colorful Corals, Golds, and that amazing Green. All citrus colors. The wind causes them to wave and undulate almost like flames.
I used tufts of tulle in coral and gold, hand sewn in grass- like clumps onto a brilliant green satin. Green organza and green felt leaves carry out the theme. I lined the hat in coral satin and finished it with a slender behind-the-head elastic to keep it on your head.
This was painted in Kansas, of a Prairie, the tall grasses go red in the fall, like a field of flame. The prairies are "burnt off" from time to time, which actually promotes renewed growth and new life!
Made from buckram steamed into shape on a wooden hat block. All stitching is by hand. ( except on felt leaves!)
One of a kind.
