Although it's a few months away, I can hear the marching band playing! So can this little fellow and he's all set with his American flag.

A lover of all things vintage, I've been experimenting with original spun cotton ornaments and figures and my patriotic little boy is one of my latest creations. My ornaments are based on vintage images and he's no exception.

Spun cotton ornaments were first produced as part of a cottage industry in Germany in the 19th century. Antique spun cotton ornaments are highly valued by collectors and there is a growing interest in these collectibles.

Measuring 6" from the bottom of his high button shoes to the tip of his paper hat, he's made in a traditional manner. Cotton was spun around a wire armature, forming his body. A reproduction face, from a vintage postcard, was added and then his clothing was designed. His navy blue crepe paper short pants and white middy sailor shirt were stitched, not glued. A jaunty red crepe paper tie was added along with his paper hat. He has a white monk's cord hanger which allows him to hang from an Easter tree, Christmas tree, window, or wherever you desire!
