The first custom feature is the length. I usually keep them about 34-35" for selling online, but if you need one longer or shorter that is not a problem.
I used the classic hourglass shape, but any number of shapes can be made, teardrop, elliptical, rectangular ( like a scheitholt or epinette des vosges) or pick something fanciful and I will work with that. The sides are the strength of the cane body, and are sawn from a solid blank and not bent, so any longish shape is possible. Like a snake or some abstract shape. Just ask in a conversation.
There are also many variations in dulcimer fretboards and string configurations. Any configuration is fine for this listing, so long as the total number of strings is under 6, and total number of frets stops at the second octave.
The maximum string length is about 20" on a cane instrument, due to the handle and overall length, but shorter ones are fine (Eppinette or Octave Dulcimer are about 14-15")
I have a sound sample of the pictured Walking Cane Dulcimer here:
I happen to like the poplar and rosewood combination for its weight and look, but you can ask for something different and I will see if it fits this listing price.
The tuners are zither pins. I include a #10 Clock Key for the tuners. Clock keys are nifty, they can go on a key ring or a watch chain.
Gig bag/cane cover now available! It covers the more delicate bits of the instrument, leaving the cane parts out for use. Great for flying or bad weather! Made locally by Etsy member SophiaWorksf8.
International Shipping is not a problem. I do it all the time. Completion time will vary with my workload, but generally an item would ship within 2 weeks of a confirmed order.
Finally, I have been professionally designing and building "Different" instruments for over 30 years. If you have a questions please ask in a conversation.
