It's not easy being ... well, a toad. But some toads are cute - point in case, this wonderful example of early 1900s majolica ceramics. A unique piece with an interesting style, this toad is organic looking and slightly asymmetrical from the front view. He has a cool square angled handle, and he's rockin' a mild grumpy look with his big squinted eyes.

He's hand painted in a rich chocolate brown, warm buttery yellow, dark olive green, and an orange-red accent on his belly and around the rim. He is in wonderful condition for his age, but he does have a couple of flea bite chips. I counted four - one on an eye, two on his legs, and one on his handle. (My photos are very large - if you zoom in, you can make them out.) They are quite insignificant and do not affect his charm at all. Inside I also note a small brown spot. I believe it's a manufacturers defect, but can't be certain.

Really quite a character.

No maker's mark to note.

4.5" - Height, at highest point (eyes)
5.25" - Width, at widest
7.75" - Length, at longest
2.25" x 4.5 - Diameter, top (short and long)
