The Weber Costello Co. was very progressive in the creation of their globes incorporating popular design styles of the period. This 1950 model exemplifies the danish modern design style of the eames era with its clean simplified lines and streamlined ribbed detail. The warm earth tones of the glass orb and the teak base only add another element of the Danish Modern design.
The production of Illiminated glass globes was a meticulous process, beginning with the hand blown glass orb and placement of each map gore by hand to create an elegant and radiant globe that is a testament to the craftsmanship of the Weber Costello Co. The production of glass globes ceased in the late 50's due to new techological advances in plastics which provided a more economical and durable product.
The Political borders displayed include: Indochina (no longer French 1950), Thailand (changed from Siam in 1949), East & West Pakistan 1947, Israel (created in 1948)
The condition of the globe is very good with some uneven toning of the map which is more evident when lit and two small losses near the top of the globe. The base and meridian are in excellent condtion whithout chips, cracks, or discoloration.
