This majestic necklace is 100% natural, I started out with rough, raw amber beads, and sanded each bit by hand with different grades of paper to get this result. I then drilled each stone, and knotted them on 4 strong 100% hemp thread, which is wrapped at the ends for extra solidity.
These stones are big, average about 1 inch each, the biggest are 1 1/2 inch!
Some of the stones are fully transparent, and you can see little pieces of grass or moss trapped forever in this 40 million year old stones. There is one with a little spider, another with a fly, trapped for 40 million years already. These really are priceless, if you don' believe it go and look for amber pieces with inclusions on the net...
You can see how this necklace came to be, and also close-up photo's of the inclusions on my blog: http://heymesamber.blogspot.com/2012/03/big-bigger-biggest-huge.html
This necklace is 59 cm (23 inch) long. The total weight is 107 grams.
It is an unique and beautiful piece which I can never copy or remake, always feels warm to the touch, is very light to wear, and is made from the oldest amber in the world.
Baltic amber is one of the oldest Amber in the world (40 million year), is light to wear, and always feels warm to touch. It is the perfect material for jewelry.
Amber is not a stone or mineral, but an organic substance created by the dripping of resin from certain pine trees(conifers of the family Sciadopityaceae), which was fossilized over a period of millions of years. I am using Baltic Amber only, dating back 40 million years.
Amber contains up to 8% of succinic acid. Succinic acid is also termed 'Spirit of amber', which in history was used for rheumatic aches and pains.
Succinic acid is also created as a byproduct of the fermentation of sugar, lending us the typical bitter-salty taste in beers and wines.
It is believed to slowly give off the acid by wearing the amber on the skin, and numb small pains, like teething pains of kids, and rheumatic aches.
All my items will be send with prioritized, registered mail, and arrive gift-wrapped.
