This pepper mill is made of myrtlewood. Myrtlewood grows as a native species in southern Oregon and northern California. It is a slow growing broadleaf evergreen than can take 80 –120 years to reach full size. It is a close relative to the Biblical myrtlewood tree that grows in the Holy Land. Myrtlewood varies widely in rich brown tones and grain depending on the growing conditions. The grinding mechanism is a 2 stage high carbide mechanism. There is an adjustment knob at the top with a "P" on it. I create the shape but Mother Nature creates the stunning color and grain of the wood so no two pieces are alike. Turning wood on a lathe to reveal what Mother Nature has created is like opening up a surprise package because you never know what an individual piece will look like!
This pepper mill will make a very thoughtful gift or an elegant addition to your kitchenware and it is sure to be a conversation piece at your next gathering. It is hand signed.
This pepper mill measures 6" high and 2 1/2" diameter. There are no stains applied, this is the natural color of the wood. I use an oil finish and polish it to a stunning satin gloss. Visit my website at www.juergenuhrig.com to see my selection of turned bowls, vases, goblets and bird calls.
