Keisuke Serizawa was an outstanding dyeing-craft artist in Japan. This amazing piece may have come from the art gallery or museum bearing his name. During his lifetime he was recognized as a Living National Treasure by Japan.
The textile is 35 inches X 35 inches - 90 cm X 90 cm. It has a deep indigo background with the knot printed in an almost-taupe. This is not a hand printed piece but a repro of his masterwork.
This piece was a diplomatic gift and was made in Japan some years ago.
It comes in a box marked Edozome - slight dents in the light cardboard box with a card, in Japanese, telling a bit about the Master whose work this represents.
It has been out of its box to admire but has never, as far as I can see, been on display. There is no fading or colour variations.
Condition is pristine; the folds can be easily pressed.
A great find for collectors and inspiration for all artists.
(I am posting this for a friend who will donate $50 of the purchase price to continuing tsunami relief efforts in Japan.)
