After reading the interview section of the book (before the release of the book), I sketched several concepts of Katniss's interview gown, and here is one of my first sketches brought to life!
This costume is made of lipstick red satin and is fully lined. I love the idea of asymmetry, and since the gown in based on the look of flames, it is totally fitting. The neckline flares up to the right shoulder in a flame-like shape, and the hem has a large cut-out flame shape as well. My favorite part is the gems...hundreds and hundreds (I believe there are well over 1000) acrylic gems in various shapes and sizes...in red, gold, crystal, and baby blue (to represent the colors of flames...per the book!). The gems trail, flame-like, from the hem and the neckline and meet in the middle. You will sparkle with every move you make!
The bodice is lightly boned to help maintain a smooth silhouette, and the gown closes with an invisible zipper in back.
