I want extraordinary focal pieces to use in my work. I’m not content to use just readily available stone cabochons or crystals for the pieces I have planned. So I've made my own focal cabs using resin - the perfect material for my purposes. I wanted stunningly beautiful cabochons, each possessing depth, a multitude of colors and a variety of inclusions. This cabochon is from my latest collection, many of which contain bits of text, gold foil, pearls, miniature seashells, petite rhinestones and crystals, watch parts, glass shards and more. After curing the resin, each cab is painstakingly filed to smooth any rough edges and then hand buffed to achieve a subtly glowing finish. These are indeed one-of-a-kind treasures that look like little jewels floating in space - hence the name, “Cosmic Cabochons”. They are such versatile components! You can stitch beaded bezels for them for bead embroidery work - a photo shows one of my cuffs in progress. They can also be set in metal bezels and used as accents in rings, brooches, necklaces, and clasps. This cabochon is translucent and the color will be affected by the background color you choose for your project - here you see how the cabochon looks against a dark background. This cabochon features a cute little frog just waiting to be surrounded by a bead embroidered lily pad on a cuff or pendant. The cabochon measures approximately 39mm x 28mm in diameter and 7mm in height at the center.
