switch is spring-loaded but not variable. So you just push in for "on" and then let the pressure off to shut off the mixer. The beater on it is really interesting. It's got a swirl at the end, with a spring wrapped around it. Can't find too much online about it.
This is from a Mix-Maid brochure: "YOU WILL FIND PLENTY OF USES FOR YOUR MIX-MAID. YOU WILL ADMIRE ITS HANDINESS, IT'S COMPACT DESIGN, PLUS IT'S LIGHTNESS, AND ABOVE ALL, IT'S SAFETY FEATURES. START YOUR MIX-MAID, PLACE YOUR HAND ON THE MIXING PADDLE AND PROVE IT'S SAFENESS. CHILDREN CANNOT BE INJURED BY THE MIX-MAID, YET WITH ALL THIS, NOTE IT'S POWER."
