This is a very early CORK TOP bottle, dating it back 100 years or so.
The base of this ink well is stamped, "SANFORD", the Sanford Mfg Co. was a large producer of ink back in the 1800's and into the early 1900's.
This bottle is in excellent pristine clean condition. Maybe a trace of haze otherwise, no cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc.
This ink well has been exposed to a high heat/light source to enrich the purple color that would naturally occur if exposed to sun light for a prolonged period of time. With few exceptions, only clear glass from before 1914 will turn sun-colored-amethyst. Not only does this deep purple / amethyst color make it a great looking ink well, but it also authenticates it as being truly antique!
Quite the antique ink well, and not one that is commonly seen, especially in the deep sun-purple color and pristine clean condition.
