This Underwood portable dates to 1930. It is made of metal and features a green finish with faux bois accents on the sides, front, and back. I love the Underwood name and logo behind the carriage and the logo cut-outs in the ribbon covers. Truly, the details on these machines are amazing!
The case is included and the typewriter screws into the bottom of the case for safe transport. (case is well worn and missing its handle) This typewriter measures 10.5"x9.5"x 4.5". With the case it measures 12.5"x12.5"x6.5".
This machine is in good vintage condition. I have given it a light surface clean, but it is still dusty inside. There are scuffs to the finish throughout. The white background glass covered keys are beautiful! The "7" key has a tiny chip in the glass, but otherwise they are shiny and lovely. One of the ribbon banks is a little crooked, but this does not seem to affect the typewriter's use.
This antique typewriter still works and will need only minor adjustments to be used for typing. All of the keys press and return well.
These are my observations on functions needing adjustment:
A new ribbon will need to be installed.
The machine types well but would probably benefit from a good oil.
The bell only dings faintly at the end of the line.
The right knob on the side of the carriage is missing. Paper can still be loaded, but requires some manual adjustment.
The carriage release button on the right side sticks a bit when pressed.
Please keep in mind that I am not a typewriter expert, nor has this machine been evaluated or serviced by a typewriter repair person. I am sharing my observations to the best of my ability and typewriter is sold "as-is". Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have before purchasing.
Insurance is included in shipping price.
