Item pictured (images 2-5) is actual item - this version has small split lines, shown in 2nd image. Due to the very high firing temperature (1240℃) Bone china casts shrink by 20% - which inevitably results in some pieces wrapping and splitting. This will not effect the function of the shade, which remains structurally very solid. Such a split is not the same as a crack that will spread. The aesthetic is also unchanged - its a skull!

*Bone china is a type of porcelain that is composed of bone ash, feldspathic material and kaolin. It has been defined as 'ware with a translucent body containing a minimum of 30% of phosphate derived from animal bone and calculated calcium phosphate. Developed by English potter Josiah Spode, bone china is known for its high level of whiteness & translucency, and very high mechanical strength and chip resistance. Compared to most porcelain bodies bone china has superior whiteness and translucency. Also, its high strength allows it to be produced in thinner cross-sections than other types of porcelain.'
