My main objectives are reviving the everyday wear of exquisite hats and elevating their artistic merit. I make sculptural yet wearable needle-felted hats which appear both as abstract forms and figurative creatures. The animal forms contribute to the sculptural quality of the hats and transform them from accessories into art pieces that evoke feelings of timelessness, whimsy and the bizarre. Inspiration for these singular creations comes from synthesizing research of vintage hats, couture hats, visual art, and animals. The goal of this series is to redefine the boundary between fashion and art and to push the needle-felting process beyond “craft” into the realm of fine art.
