Hand carved Swedish Dala Horse made by Swedes in South Florida.
♥ All natural non-toxic materials: pine, acrylic paint
♥ 10.75 inches (25cm) tall from toe – ear tip
*Your final Dala horse will be very similar to the picture, but could differ slightly from the pictures as each one is individually hand-painted.
HOW WE MAKE IT: The silhouette of the Dalahäst is first traced on a piece of paper, then transferred to two pieces of wood. The silhouettes are then cut out with a band saw. The two halves are glued together and the final shape is carved by hand with various hand-made carving tools. Sanding, prepping, painting and varnishing is also done by hand.
HISTORY: Originally, the traditional Dala horse was mainly a toy for children, but was also used as a form of currency. This stubby nosed little horse has become a token of goodwill and exemplifies Scandinavian frugality and dexterity and is recognized as an unofficial symbol of Sweden throughout Swedish-America.
We are happily carrying on the tradition of our ancestors.
