This wood was scrap that came from a friend's small mill & wood shop in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. I love finding wood scraps like this small piece. We can tell that this wood laid out in the elements for some time because it is covered in what is called spalting. Spalting occurs when the wood is consumed by fungus and appears as fine pen & ink like patterns on the wood - aka insect art. This small box has a lot of character and will make a lovely home for a small treasure.
