The stoneware clay is called black mountain and turns a deep brown color after high firing. The exterior is kept unglazed and has texture like rough sandpaper which contrasts with the smooth green glaze inside. Each vessel is wheel thrown and handmade so variations in size, shape, and glaze will occur. This vessel is vitrified.

Thick sturdy leather strap holds the planter with a simple knot on each end. No drainage hole.

I shaped these vessels after long squash that my mom used to grow in her garden, called "upo". So I am calling these hanging planters the UPO Series.

The last picture shows how a container would look planted. Plant is not included.

Approximate dimensions:

Height: 5"

Opening at mouth: 3"

length of leather strap: 12"
