Fair Isle versus Merino
Both yarns are two-ply fingering weight (jumper weight) of 100% virgin wool
which knit up at about 8 st/in on US 1-2 needles. Their differences are:
ColorShift Fair Isle yarn made from 28 micron wool has the traditional properties sought in stranded knitting, good shape retention (for pinned out points in blocked lace, knife edge fold on tams), but is not comfortable next to the skin for everyone.
Suggested for: stranded knitting, tams, hats, mittens, gloves, felting
ColorShift Merino made from 23.5 micron superwash Merino wool is soft, bouncy, elastic, drapes nicely, can be enjoyed next to the skin, resists pilling and shrinking and is rather slender for a fingering weight.
Suggested for: lace, shawls, scarves, baby clothes, socks, gloves
