These Victorian style black leather lace up boots were made in London, probably in the early 1980's, by famous ballet shoemakers Gamba of London.
Founded in 1903, Gamba has been out of business for some years now.
(Repetto, the French company that bought Gamba, still manufactures some dance shoes)
Gamba also made beautiful period-style character shoes like these for the stage, and this pair is a true collector's item! I have not seen a single pair like these for sale on the Internet for any price. This pair has kicked up it's heels for many performances of musical productions such as Carousel, Oklahoma, Meet me in St Louis and others. The leather soles are worn (thinner at the toe tips) but are still very wearable. Heel tips are in very good condition. Notice the metal heel braces that were added by a theatrical dance shoe cobbler for heel strength before they were worn. They have metal eyelets all the way to the top (no speed laces) and that beautiful shapely Victorian heel.
These boots are quite realistic to the Victorian period and would be the perfect finishing touch to your costume! Shoes like these are rare and hard to come by nowadays.
They are hand-marked inside "size 5 1/2" but I am not sure of their actual US size; (I wear a US size 6.5 and they fit me) Back of heel to toe tip measures 10" on outside. Heel height is 2 1/2"
I do not recommend them to be worn by sizes larger than about a US size 6; due to the thin soles you will probably want to leave room for innersole padding under ball of foot.
***Before purchasing, please be aware that these shoes were manufactured to be worn on smooth stage (not street) surfaces; and may not be suitable for wear outdoors***
