I made this neclace many years ago with a piece of black matrix turquoise and sterling silver. . I carved it to get the maximum amount of turquoise. This is from the Smith black matrix mine. According to Turquoise by Joseph E. Pogue, page 50, The Smith black matrix mine is three miles North East of Klondike between Tonapah and Goldfield, Nevada. The black is jasperoid. The black matrix is as hard as any jasper that I have ever cut. The turquoise is also hard and is natural. Apparently this is the only location in the world with the black matrix. The cabachon is 18mm by 32mm. The total weight of the pendant and chain is 22.3 grams (.78 oz) The width of the pendant is 26mm (1.1") by 46mm( 1 3/4")
