Blacksmith forged, this functional piece of wall (door) art will be a conversation striker with all your guests.
First, let's talk about the dragon's head, it starts out as 5/8" solid round stock iron and comes to life on the anvil under the hammer blows at a yellow/orange heat. Details are then added using hand held punches that I made (eye punch, nostril punch, etc...).
After the head is complete, it's back to the fire to heat and form the body with long smooth curves, loops, and a pointy curved tail...
(4th photo shows this step being made)
For the wings, I drew them and had them laser cut , I bring them to an orange heat in the forge and hammer them all around to give them texture and match the hand forged dragon.
I then drill a hole in the dragon's neck to insert the pivot pin so it moves freely allowing the dragon's whole body to rock back and forth in a knocking motion.
The pivot pin bracket is welded to the wings which are secured to the door (or wall) with 4 screws.
The back plate is a 1/4" thick flat bar that measures 4" x 4". It is hammered all around and my signature "Naz" is stamped at the bottom, this plate is also fixed to the door (or wall) with 4 screws.
The dragon's stands approximately 18" - 20" tall and the wings are 12" wide.
For cleaning, I use the wire brush followed by a light sand paper. This highlights the hammer marks.
For protection I brush on two coats of Renaissance wax which is a high quality wax used in museums worldwide on armory, swords, precious metals, etc... .
Included are 8 decorative wood screws that match the ironwork.
This listing will put your order on my fabrication list, I will contact you with approximately how long my turnaround time is at that moment. (or you can contact me first to know what my turnaround time is at that moment)...
This signed metal sculpture is a highly decorative and functional piece of art that will last more than a few lifetimes.
Thanks for the interest !
