Well, my husband created these -- it's essentially a lazy susan for your yarn cakes.
You wind your skeins of yarn into a center-pull ball, and you place the yarn cake on top of the wood stake. You pull from the outside strand of yarn as you knit or crochet or weave, and the yarn cake spins effortlessly as you go along! No more chasing your yarn across the floor, taking it back from the dog or cat with fur and dust bunnies on it!
Each of the Yarn Buddies is branded on the bottom with "SVF" the letters indicating the name of our business -- Sun Valley Fibers -- and are numbered, so you get the one you order. No two are alike, they are each one-of-a-kind.
Yarn Buddies were originally only made from hardwoods found on our farm or nearby us in South Central Wisconsin. We've found an excellent source for wood varieties from all over the United States, and even varieites from Africa, so we're going to have lots of exotic varieties listed -- and they are really beautiful!
Each Yarn Buddy is created by hand -- and completely reflect the natural colors of the woods used. There are no varnishes of any kind used on our products. They are sealed with a wax after first being sanded to a very smooth finish.
The dimensions of the single spool Yarn Buddy are approximately a 4-1/2" circle by 7" tall. It does vary slightly by wood variety
The dimensions of the double Yarn Buddy are approximately 11" long by 4-1/2" wide by 7" tall. Again, it does vary by wood variety, but that's a good rule of thumb!
If you would like to see a Yarn Buddy in person, StevenBe's in Minneapolis, Minnesota stocks them on a regular basis. The Woolery in Frankfort, Kentucky has them online.
Serial Knitters in Washington, carries a fine assortment as well.
We also have them with us at the many Fiber events going on in the Midwest --
