I was speechless when I first saw this stone. As my lapidary friend put it, it has an explosive combination of cogswheel orbs and druzy caves that just boggles the mind. Another lapidary friend of mine remarked that she had never seen an ocean jasper like this one in her 30 years of being a professional stone dealer. I knew in a moment that I had to create something special with this rare, remarkable work of nature!
I sat for many weeks in silent conversation with the stone before I was able to intuit the curves and peaks that the design eventually included. Then the fun began!
The top part of the pendant is crafted from two layers of sterling and one of 14kt gold that I hand cut and textured to replicate the lines of the agate bands seen in the stone. The gold reflects the subtle color in the diamond-like druzy perfectly. I oxidized the connecting pieces and the stone's bezel black to accentuate the dark lines around the cogswheel and to add contrast. I constructed the back with a 'window' to better appreciate the stone's incredible beauty.
Overall, the pendant measures 1 3/4" long by 1 1/2" wide at the top and hangs from a simple sterling silver oval link chain. The total length of the necklace is approximately 17 1/2" but can be worn shorter as the clasp can connect anywhere on the chain.
One of a kind and made for someone very special.
