This Pebble was part of the Open Arts Collective "Do Art Daily" Show in San Diego California on March 24, 2012. "Do Art Daily" was a collaborative arts project in which 30 local artists commited to creating to make art daily through the month of February. For my project, I choose to create a new Curious Pebble every day. The number noted in the title corresponds to the day in February on which it was made. More details can be found on my blog: http://www.curiouspebble.com/2012/01/last-years-show-at-space4art-last-month.html
The remaining pebbles will be placed on local beaches for others to find as part of my on-going found-art project.
Approximate Measurements: 10.5cm wide x 5cm high (4 14" X 2")
Each of my Curious Pebbles are one-of-a-kind, hand crocheted and/or tatted pieces and are similar to the kind of Curious Pebbles I leave on the beach in my "Found Art" project. The Pebbles for sale in my etsy shop are a bit more detailed, with thinner thread and more complicated patterns. Most of them take an hour or so to complete, with pricing based upon time spent.
The goal of my shop is to recoup my costs for the project, including supplies and (argh!) gasoline...
ABOUT THE CURIOUS PEBBLE PROJECT:
A while ago, I stumbled across some artfully crocheted rocks on the web. They were both a little odd and strangely beautiful. Inspired, I made a few for myself, but was struck by the idea of Making and Leaving them on the beach for others to happen across. This idea has morphed into a full-blown performance art project of sorts; I go to the beach, select an ocean-smoothed stone, scout out a little spot in the sand, pull out my crochet needles and thread, and whip up a sweater for the little pebble guy. Then, I leave him on the beach for someone else to enjoy. Yeah. It's pretty much like that...
