This is an original encaustic painting, using both collage and oil painting. Deep within the layers of this painting, I began with an oil paint layered, paint scraped, yellow ocher background. I began to add encaustic wax medium, seed pods, and paper elements to the piece to give it depth. On the surface of the painting are these wonderful queen anne's lace, sepia toned seed pod silhouettes, which I created myself using pigmented ink and japanese printing paper. I had cut each piece to give it these individually unique shapes. All are fused within the layers of encaustic wax. The yellow highlights on the surface are touches of transparent yellow oil paint that I hand rubbed into the wax, as well as some of the background highlights coming through. This piece has a soft, faint sweet smell of beeswax coming through.
