**William Silverman was a prolific designer of high end millinery. His showroom and work shop were located at 15 West 39th Street in New York, and in operation from the mid-30's until his retirement from the business in 1962. Wm. Silverman hats carried several labels as follows:
Wm. Silverman, William, Karen Isabel Originals and Michael of New York.
Most of his hats had small labels of a spool, scissors and thread that spelled out Wm. Silverman.
William Silverman's hats were sold in better department stores throughout the country; including Bergdorf Goodman, Lord & Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue, I. Magnin and Carson Pirie among other high end retailers. It is a tribute to his timeless design sense that Silverman hats are still worn, highly prized, sought out and collected.**
Beautiful materials and and simple design make this fine, woven straw hat a classic with very modern contrasts. Featuring a circular, rose-like, chiffon crown, with a gold velvet band that trails off the back of the brim. I love the interplay of luxe velvet and chiffon that contrasts beautifully with the natural straw.
Interior of hat features the signature spool, scissors and thread tag that the iconic designer was known for.
Interior tag: " Original Wm. Silverman New York"
Interior rim measures 22" or (57cm.)-which makes it a medium size.
6" deep brim.
Crown rises approx. 4.5" from brim
This dream of a hat was from a local estate. It was very well cared for, and shows no signs of wear or damage. It's in very good vintage condition.
