These books will look wonderful on a shelf, desk or table. But there are also some great classics to read and cherish! They all have beautiful warm glow of time and age.
1) Charlotte Temple by Mrs. Rowson. Hurst & Co. Undated (circa 1880s-90s). Ornate black on gray embossed design with silver on spine. A lovely old book which looks great on the shelf. Condition: Book has considerable wear, especially at spine extremities. Front free endpaper is missing and has s been neaty mended. Rear endpaper has large missing chip to upper corner. Original owner's name in old ink on front endpaper. Interior: pages are toned but clean and unmarked.
2) A Child's History of England by Charles Dickens. A.L.Burt & Co., circa 1900. Bound in dark brown half leather and cloth. All edges are marbled. Condition: Leather spine is chipped at bottom edge and there are two tiny chips along spine edge. Rear hinge has had a little bit of book worm damage which has some old mending, and is slightly cracked. Exterior has some light spotting. Interior is clean and unmarked.
3) The Children of the Abbey by Regina Maria Roche. Hurst & Co, NY. Undated. Circa 1900. Illustrations by F.O.C. Darley
4) The Works of Honore de Balzac, Vol. XI. Cousin Betty and Cousin Pons. With an Introduction by George Saintsbury. National Library Edition. Bigelow, Brown & Co., NY. Undated, Circa 1890s. Black Half Leather with gray cloth.
Condition: Top edge is gilt. Half-leather with gray boards. Leather spine is chipped at upper edge of spine, and the leather is also worn and chipped at corners, which are bumped. Otherwise a clean unmarked volume.
