The sides are painted, and there is an attached wire on the back, so it is ready for hanging.
This is a larger version of an 8" x 8" painting I did a few months ago, which was very popular, and sold quickly. I think the simplicity works even better on a larger scale. It is painted in thick impasto with a palette knife.
I have been thinking a lot about the subject of Americana and rural living. Recently I heard our symphony perform part of Copland's "The Tender Land" opera, which really inspired me. The title of this painting is from one song from the opera, which in turn is based on old American hymns.
