This figure is approximately 6 inches high (measured in the sitting position); her feet are meant to dangle over the edge of the shelf on which she sits. Her parka, snow pants, mittens, and mukluks are hand-sewn from wool felt fabric. The "fur trim" on her parka hood and mittens was attached by delicately needle-felting loose fibers (sheep's wool) to the wool felt fabric. Her parka is decorated with glass seed beads. The braids were fashioned from sheep's wool fibers dyed a deep chocolate brown, and her face was molded from polymer clay.
On her lap, she is nestling a perfect miniature terra cotta flower pot containing a small tree (imitation), devotedly fostering it through the long, cold winter as she patiently waits for spring. I wanted this little person to look like tending this sprout through the winter is the most important thing in the world to her.
