Description:
Poster 3 of my series of Posters depicting landmarks in the Solar System.
This piece is a fantasy depiction of The Seven Sisters (Caves) on Mars. As of 2007 seven putative cave entrances have been identified in satellite imagery off the flanks of Arsia Mons. They have been informally dubbed Dena, Chloƫ, Wendy, Annie, Abbey, Nikki, and Jeanne and resemble "skylights" formed by the collapse of cave ceilings. The cave entrances are between 100m and 252m wide (330-828ft). Because in most cases the cave floors cannot be seen, only minimum depths are known: the researchers calculated they must extend between 73m and 96m (240-315ft) below the surface. However, in one image taken of Dena by the Mars Odyssey Camera, a floor can be seen. Using the data, the authors calculated that this cave must extend 130m (426ft) below the surface.
Details:
This is a Interpretive look at The Seven Sisters (Caves) I decided to take the perspective from inside one of the caves looking up and out at the Martian Sky. The Sun near the edge of the opening and the 2 moons Phobos & Deimos following.
Enjoy!
