Gorgeous antique Victorian gold watch fob, no chain. Features a stunning repousse scene of a snake and griffin. The snake was a symbol of infinity and eternal love, the griffin represented wisdom and strength, and the two are connected by ribbon-like reeds in this piece. The backside of the fob is beautifully monogrammed and the top has a loop with a large non-opening bolt ring. The bolt ring is stamped with a teeny tiny maker's mark--looks like a triangle within a triangle. The border appears to have a seam, but this is one whole piece (not a locket). The metal is most likely gold filled though unmarked, and the piece is fairly lightweight given it's overall size. The diameter of the fob alone is 3cm (1-3/16 inches) and the diameter of the large bolt ring is nearly 2cm (3/4 inch). Plenty spots of metal/plate wear, tarnish, and discoloration especially on the griffin's belly and the outside border of the piece where much of the silvery base metal peeks through. Truly a stunning piece!
