At some point in history (1950's were guessing), some crafty tinkerer took a fiberboard cigar box and stuffed it full of tubes to make his own radio. We found this little guy and had to have it.
We've pulled out the tube chassis and reloaded it with a modern 3 watt amp and speaker so it sounds great. 3 watts won't get the neighbors to call the cops on you, but is perfect your nightstand or desk (or the hippest cubicle in the office). Your Apple device also charges while docked via the little docking tray we've sunk into the top.
Volume is controlled with the original volume knob which sits on a volume indicator that has awesome old school graphics. Power for the speakers is controlled by a new toggle switch we've added to the top. Two power chords exit the rear of the unit, one for the powered speaker and one to charge your device.
Our historical upcycler wrapped his cigar box with some sweet looking fabric tape to hold it all together. The bold stripes have aged very well and are holding up great. Remember, this is a 60 year old fiberboard box, so it's got some waviness and frayed edges. In our book, that's what makes this a must have piece of DIY history.
