This silk sari yarn comes from India's industrial mills where they make silk saris. It is made as a by product of sari manufacturing from the loose ends of silk waste. It has been handspun by women's co-operatives and small businesses using drop spindle, charka or wheel. These unique artisan products enable women to make their own income from their cottage industries. The yarn is truly individual, eco-friendly and fair trade.
The vibrent color and unique texture of these silk fibers and silk yarns are an inspiration to knitters, crochet, textile art and other fiber art projects such as wall hangings, weaving and even rug work.
There's no dye lot in recycled silk yarn, that is the beauty of using recycled silk as each piece has its own individuality and everything you make from the yarn is its own work of art.
Using Recycled Silk Yarn:
Recycled silk yarn has variations in thickness in the amount of tension in the thread even throughout the same skein. It can get really twisted and kinky if you don't let it hang and unwind itself occassionally.
Colours - Because recycled silk yarn is handspun, each skein varies in its colorway, gauge, twist and texture. Just like the saris this yarn is made from, there is an infinite number of colour mixtures. We try to fill orders with yarn with a similar colour theme and similar gauge yarn
I buy this yarn directly from a women's co-operative in India, I then clean and air it myself so it is all ready to go!
I am adding more color spectrums and yarn in the coming days so please check back. I will also be adding offers and discounts.
