This fun, fanciful, Faerie Frock is perfect for the little girl in your life. It features vertical stripes of knit panels, connected with crochet. The frock can be made with or without a skirt, hood and sleeves. The sleeve can be of varying lengths, and can even end with mitts with thumb holes. You can close your frock with a separating zipper, snaps or buttons. A photo tutorial on shortening separating zippers is included. Several line drawings are included on the last page so you can plan out your colors. The pattern suggests one color for the outline and six colors for the panels; however, you can do what makes you happy; use just two or three colors for the panels, or even just stash~bust and wing it! The whole point of this pattern is to have fun and to bring some joy to the little one who gets to wear it.
This pattern was inspired by the remarkable Kat of Katwise.com who can also be found right here on Etsy: http://www.etsy.com/shop/katwise
Her amazing upcycled elf coats were the starting point of these knit patterns. I asked for and received her approval to make this pattern.
Sizes: Use the actual chest measurement to determine the size. The measurements listed are the maximum for each size. The pattern is made to allow room for clothing to be worn underneath.
Child 3~4 5~6 7~9 10~12
Chest 23” 25” 28” 30”
Yarn:
Any worsted weight, as long as you can get the correct gauge. Yardage estimates are based on a long sleeve frock with a hood and knee length skirt. For most of the samples seen in this pattern, Berroco Vintage or Kraemer Perfection yarns were used.
175 (225, 300, 350) yards each of 6 different complimentary colors
350 (400, 600, 700) yards of a main color (MC) for all the connections
Needles/Hooks:
These sizes are just recommendations, use whatever sizes are needed to obtain gauge.
US 7 (4.5mm) DP needles, 16~20” circular needles, and 24~30” circular needles (for larger sizes with longer skirts)
US 7 (4.5mm) hook
US 4 (3.5mm) hook
Gauge:
21~22sts and 28rows to a 4” square in stocking knit (the slight variance from 21~22sts is acceptable as this is a coat, so it is not extremely fitted.

Extra circular needles or long piece of scrap yarn for holding waistband stitches.
Yarn needle for weaving in ends and sewing in sleeves.
Many stitch markers or scraps of yarn to use as stitch markers (0~25, depending on what variation is made)
