Sometimes, I go to estate sales that blow me away. This shawl is from one such sale, probably the best estate sale i have ever been too. It was the former house and estate of Florida music professor and sheet music baron Robert Whitford, whose extensive library of published sheet music dates back to the 1940s. Judging by various original photos that i found at the sale, his wife also appeared to have lived quite a colorful and interesting life as a young artist and burlesque show girl in the 1930s and early 1940s. In later years, however, Mrs. Robert Whitford dedicated herself to the art of needlework. You name it, and if it could possibly be knitted or crocheted, rest assured that Mrs. Robert Whitford had attempted it with vigor!! The sale contained nearly 300 hand knit and crocheted pieces from this amazing lady - everything from dresses, scarves, wraps and ponchos to an INCREDIBLE red, yellow, and navy blue Modtastic Go Go shorts set with matching vest and tam hat!!! And so, without further ado, I present to you the artistry of Mrs. Robert Whitford. May she rest content in the knowledge that her creations live on.
