Paua shell is a gorgeous abalone found in New Zealand. The New Zealanders have long used this shell for ceremonial and decorative effects. In the mid century, paua chips in resin were very popular as tourist souvenirs.
One of my customers is a collector of paua shell items and you can read about her collection on my blog here:
They are handcarved and have a lovely organic feel about them. The label says "Fiorland Paua Shell NZ"
They are 2 1/4" (6cm) high X 1 1/4" (3cm) in diameter
Lovely blue, purple green and mother of pearl swirls embedded in thick black lucite.
These gorgeous pepper and salt shakers use the shells' lustrous colours to great effect.
Still stylish - they would make a statement on any table.
