I created this pendant with a Nepal rupee from the 1970s. A yantra is a design used to help practitioners of meditation or Tantra to balance the mind or focus spiritually. According to Tantric tradition, wearing or concentrating on a yantra is said to bring spiritual or magical benefits.
This coin is fairly rare. A few were given to me by a friend who visited Nepal decades ago. I have searched, but haven't been able to find any more in this golden brass material.
Treating the coin as an art piece and not a novelty, I heated it to soften the metal, then hammered it into a dome shape, and drilled a hole for the matching bail. Then I antiqued it and polished the high areas to best show the yantra design. Lastly, I coated it with a special sealant to protect the finish. It's a process that takes about a week to complete. After attaching a bail, I suspended the pendant from a beautiful 18-inch brass chain and added a simple antiqued brass lobster clasp.
It will arrive in a beautiful Woojoo gift box, ready for giving ... or keeping.
