This is a rather relaxed-fitting garment, and can be worn by sizes Small to Large. I worked in a patch of gathering detail under the bust, and accentuated the stitch by running a few strips of ivory lace through it in a criss-cross pattern.
The back of the top gathers with a length of olive velvet ribbon, which can be adjusted. Pulling it tighter gives the top a gentle fit-and-flare shape, while still being relaxed and roomy.
The sleeves consist of creamy chiffon fabric with raw edges. After tea-dyeing the chiffon for the subtlest marbled texture, I sewed ruffles into the shoulders and then finished the sleeves with strips of lace, also raw-edged. The mixture of these raw edges and the rustic fabric make for an unfussy, shabby chic elegance.
Can be worn alone, but I like it best over a tank top (see last picture), since the knitted top is very drapey. I also tried it under a lightweight long-sleeved top, which looks great, too. Wear it as a beach cover-up, or pair it with a denim blazer. The sky is the limit! :)
