An instant vintage book collection!
They have minor flaws which are described below.
A lovely grouping of old books which have a beautiful warm glow of time and age and look gorgeous on a shelf or table.
1) The Courtship of Miles Standish by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Hurst & Company. Undated (Circa 1900) Condition: Cloth covers have some spotting. Pages are highly toned and brittle but whole, complete and clean. There is edgewear, especially at spine extremities. Binding is whole and fully intact. A well-used but attractive copy.
2) Mary Oliver by May Sinclair. Macmillan, NY 1919. Condition: Covers have some spotting, rubbing and edgewear, especially at spine extremities. Corners are bumped. Front and rear hinges have an old repair. Interior is clean and unmarked.
3) A Modern Chronicle by Winston Churchill, The Macmillan & Co., London, 1906. Top edge is gilt. Condition: Original owner's name is written in pencil and dated 1913 on front endpaper. There are also random notes circa 1913 in pencil nad india ink. Cloth covers have some weathering and a small amount of puckering, with wear at spine edges and extremities. THe original owner kept a newspaper clipping about Winston Churchill between two pages, which darkened throse pages due to the acid content of the newspring. Since it all lends to the interesting antique quality of the book, we have left the clipping in place.
4) L. Muhlbach. [In English] translated from the German by Armory Coffin, MD. Appleton Co., NY , 1910. Red Half Leather bound with gilt decoration on spine and Blue, White Gray and Red Marbled Boards. A fantastic antique bookplate is affixed to inside front cover.
Condition: Cloth covers have some weathering and wear, especially at corners. Outer corners are bumped. Interior has some foxing (light brown spotting), some light smudging and toning to endpapers and text block, especially at edges. A lovely book!
