There are 12 drawers. The size of the chest is 18 1/2" wide by 6 1/4" deep by 9 1/2" high. The drawers measure 16 3/4" x 6 " and they are 1/2" deep.
The drawers stack on top of one another as shown in the second photo. Therefore, when you remove a drawer the entire stack slides down and the removed drawer must be placed back in the space at the top. There is a cutout in the center bottom of the chest to place your hand in order to remove the very bottom drawer. You cannot pull out a drawer in the center of the stack without removing the ones on top of it.
The metal latches are for decoration only and are attached to both sides of the chest.
