This is an amazing royal blue wool and velvet coat, pants, and cap set that was made in England for Hutzler's Department store in Baltimore, MD around the year 1900. The coat has a beautiful small pointed velvet collar and a double row of ornate black and silver glass buttons to fasten the coat closed. There are also two flap pockets on the bodice. The back of the coat has a sewn in pleat from the middle of the back to the hemline and also has a decorative belt which is adorned with two blue buttons. The coat is lined with ivory silk fabric. The wool pants have two straps that criss cross in the back and fasten in the front with two white pearlized buttons. The straight legs flair out at the bottom and have a 7-inch zipper at the bottom of each leg and a black elastic band to help the pant legs fit snugly over your little one's boots (and the elastic band would fit around the underside of the boot). The pants are lined with an ivory soft flannel-like fabric. The blue wool cap has a small velvet brim, earflaps and a blue strap which fastens to the side of the cap with a white pearlized button. The cap is lined with ivory silk fabric. This set is approximately 12 months size however, please see measurements below for correct fit.
≈Measurements (in inches with the garment lying on a flat surface)≈
Straps:(where the straps are sewn to the waistband in the back to where they button in the front): 19
Length (waistband to hemline): 19.5
Cap (Circumference on the inside): 20
There is a tag on the inside of the coat that indicates "Made in England, Hutzler's Baltimore". There is also a tag on the inside of the pants that indicates "England". There are two tags on the inside of the cap: One indicates "England" and the other has the number "15".
There is some very minor wear to the velvet on the collar and cap. Also, the right side of the collar shows some very faint discoloration. This wear and discoloration is almost invisible but I wanted to point it out. The lining of the coat has some staining on the upper right side which I could not remove with dry cleaning but cannot be seen at all from the outside of the coat. Neither the minor wear to the velvet, very faint discoloration of the collar nor the staining inside the coat detract from the beauty and elegance of this very rare heirloom set.
