When you receive it, wind it gently with the enclosed key and set the time. Don't over-wind or it won't work properly. If it ticks too fast or too slow, you can adjust it on the back with the "F-S" (fast-slow) dial and it will keep ticking perfect time for 8 days. If you accidentally overwind this clock, you will have to help ease the tension by rotating the hands manually. Once you relieve the tension, it will start to tick. This is a gem - it's just gorgeous and you will love it!
