The delightful umbrella shape was the work of the designer Jessie Tait - the plate is fluted (as is an umbrella of course) into 12 rays, and has an umbrella-shaped hooked silver chrome handle. This is part of Midwinter's Stylecraft range, and in the 'Fashion' shape.
The plate is coloured white and decorated with a random pattern of atomic-style stars and fluffy explosions in a soft turquoise or aqua, candy pink, black and gold, a design called Cascade. The background has a light grey, linen-look, hatched texture, and a band of gold also encircles the plate.
The plate is in excellent condition with no damage, just some slight wear to the gilding on the edge - the chrome handle has a touch of tarnish on the tip, which will probably clean off. It is clearly marked with the Midwinter backstamp and has decorators' marks.
It measures 20 cm/8" across and about 14 cm/5.5" high, and weighs 452 gms; estimated packaged weight is 900 gms.
