I handwove this lustrous designer summer shawl in a mixture of mauves, pinks, lavenders, and roses, all blended together with a warm brown to create a soft feminine effect. Silky smooth and luxurious, it has a wonderful flowing drape.
The shawl is lightweight and can be worn in all seasons.
The fibers come from two renewable resources …. from bamboo and from soy. The warp (lengthwise) is bamboo and the weft is soysilk. The bamboo gives a lovely drape and sheen to the shawl. Soysilk is a new fiber, made of byproducts from the tofu manufacturing process. I find it a pleasure to weave with. It is very environmentally friendly, part of the new class of green textiles. Silky, and lustrous, it drapes beautifully and is warm. Both fibers are wonderfully soft.
The wrap measures 20 1/2” x 78” (52 cm x 198 cm). I finished it with hand hemstitching and with an additional 5” (13 cm) of hand-twisted fringe.
