Please read below for information on Dead Pawn.
This is a dead pawn choker made with sterling silver, real bear claws and turquoise.
It is a beautiful two strand choker that truly looks amazing on.
The choker is 15 1/4 inches. The claws measure 1 7/8 inches long over the curve and the turquoise pendant measures 1 1/4 inches long and just under an inch wide. The overall weight is 43 grams.
The round circle on the back of the pendant is from a pawn label that has been removed so there is no tarnish there.
This piece is vintage and has some tarnish which I believe makes it perfect. However if you cleaned it up, it would surely shine!
What is dead pawn?...
Dead pawn is an item that was used at a pawn shop as collateral to secure a loan. When the borrower does not repay the loan according to the contract, the item then becomes dead pawn and the lender is free to sell the item to recover his cost.
Why is Native American dead pawn collectable?
Because, generally true Native American dead pawn items were generally not made to be sold to the public or mass produced. True Native American dead pawn items were made either for the artist’s use or for family or friends. These pieces are much rarer and highly collectable.
