There is something so delightfully irresistable about finding a wonderful stone while out for a walk. Some will just speak to you, and you swear they're trying to catch your attention, wanting you to pick them up. I have picked up many stones in my travels, so many that they now comprise most of a labyrinth in back of our house.
This stone came from the shore of Lake Michigan, and it was found by Gary Wilson, who fortunately also had the eye and the equipment to convert it into a pendant. A rich olive green, it's pitted and rugged on one side and smoother on the other, polished by millennia of water and maybe even glaciers. It has a rich, ancient quality and strikes me as the kind of stone you develop a deep relationship with, which is what suggested the title. Native Americans (and everyone else around the world) have a long history of using stones for healing and protective purposes--grouped under the blanket term "medicine", the meaning of which extends well beyond physical healing and into the realm of spirit. This stone definitely has a vibrant spirit of its own.
I've given the stone a strand composed mainly of Thai Hilltribe fine silver and silver beads. These are just excellent beads: the irregular drops are fine silver, and the seed bead spacers are just one or two percentage points below that--97% silver, which is finer than sterling. Matte bronze glass seed beads alternate with them as well, and there's a little nugget of sage green Leland Antique Foundry Glass for an accent. The Leland Glass was also found at Lake Michigan and worked by Gary.
Just above the stone pendant, a stack of handmade artisan beads of ceramic, glass, sterling silver, and steel rest with a sterling wire wrap over the crimp beads. The sterling and steel beads are my own creations.
A steadying presence, this stone would be a great companion as you go out into the world and about your day; a bit of grounding and what is REAL, to keep you focused and steady...along with the relationship you create with it.
Size: From the nape of the neck to the base of the stone, 19 1/2" or 49.5cm. The stone measures 2" x 1 1/2" x 5/8" or 35cm x 33.8cm x 31.7cm.
Care: Wash with mild soap and lukewarm water to clean. Polish the silver with a jeweler's polishing cloth.
Your Medicine Rock will arrive beautifully giftwrapped in a hand-decorated pillow box, along with a handwritten descriptive label.
